Saudi Arabia traditionally has been India’s top oil source but in the April-October period of 2017-18, Iran was India’s second biggest supplier of crude oil after Saudi Arabia till 2010-11 but western sanctions over its suspected nuclear programme relegated it to the 7th spot in the subsequent years. Wassenaar Arrangement (WA) decided to admit India as its new member.  India’s entry into the export control regime would enhance its credentials in the field of non-proliferation despite not being a signatory to the Non-Proliferation Treaty. The decision was taken at the two-day plenary meeting of the grouping in Vienna.  The grouping statement that the Wassenaar Arrangement participating states reviewed the progress of a number of current membership applications and agreed at the plenary meeting to admit India.  India will become the Arrangement’s 42nd participating state as soon as the necessary procedural arrangements for joining the WA are completed. It will be presented on the heels of a disruptive year which was characterised by a slowdown in economic growth and a transition to Goods and Services Tax (GST). The combined impact of these factors can lead to a short-term slackening in the pace of tax collections and a hunt for ways to boost growth. Proposals to deviate from government’s roadmap on fiscal consolidation are back on the table as a way to offset a slowdown. This is a bad idea and deserves to be rejected.

Government runs a fiscal deficit, or borrows to spend more than it earns. Beyond a point, it has adverse consequences such as inflation and macroeconomic destabilisation. There is, therefore, a roadmap in place to curtail the relative size of deficit. We don’t have a reason to deviate from it as no durable solution to economic challenges, including agrarian distress and jobs shortage, will arise from borrowing more. The solution should instead focus on increasing productivity in agriculture, helping entrepreneurs create more jobs and reforming the creaking and middleman-dominated welfare system. At least four people have been killed in fog related accidents in the past 24-hours in Uttar Pradesh. And many people died due to extreme cold spending nights in under open sky.
Rail traffic has also been interrupted by dense fog with more than 30 trains running late. Many trains including Shatabdi Express between New Delhi and Lucknow has been cancelled after its arrival in Lucknow was delayed on Thursday. The living conditions in night shelters across Uttar Pradesh continue to be dismal, despite Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's intructions to ensure proper arrangements.

He also Stated that Us will suspend all its security assistance to Pakistan, unless and until Pakistan takes “decisive action” against all the Talibani and Haqqani network, and militant groups . He also stated that on one side US is providing fund aids to Pakistan and on other hand Pakistan is helping terrorist, funding them and killing their Army personals in Afghanistan.
